Marc de Vos joined CIRCA in 2023 from his native South Africa as a Research Associate, focusing on coastal ocean modeling. After completing an MS in Ocean & Climate Dynamics from the University of Cape Town, Marc worked in the Marine Research unit of the South African Weather Service (SAWS) for several years, during which time he completed a PhD in Oceanography. At the SAWS, Marc focused on coastal ocean and sea ice modeling and observation in support of operational marine forecasting. Alongside theoretical research, Marc has worked as a scientific and commercial diver, led met-ocean teams on several Antarctic research cruises, and was a voluntary operational member of South Africa’s maritime search and rescue organization, the National Sea Rescue Insititute, for 14 years.
